Make Period Dignity Your Goal!
Create a caring environment for your visitors by offering free, organic, sustainable period products in your washrooms.
According to a recent study commissioned by Citron Hygiene, 62% of women have cancelled or postponed plans due to a lack of products to manage their period.
Robert Guice, Chief Executive at Citron Hygiene, said: “The cost-of-living crisis is contributing to an increased demand for free and accessible period products, with more and more women experiencing the effects of period poverty.
“Everyone should be able to access free period products in away-from-home washrooms when and where they need them. Businesses and schools can help ease menstruators’ anxiety during these difficult times and ensure they can continue participating in normal life by making period products available to their washroom users. No person should be excluded from education, work or social activities because they are menstruating.”
Citron Hygiene is partnered with Aunt Flow, a manufacturer of free-vend pad and tampon dispensers and period products. It is committed to advocating for period dignity and free-vend of period products in the UK. Citron Hygiene, a provider of washroom hygiene services, is committed to period dignity and now only offers free-vend commercial period products dispensers.
Set The Standard In Your Stadium
Bolton Wanderers Football Club, and Bolton Wanderers in the Community, partnered with Citron Hygiene to provide Aunt Flow free-vend period products to their visitors.
Research conducted by Citron Hygiene revealed that 1 in 5 women across the UK could not afford period products because of the cost-of-living crisis. 70% of women also responded that they would spend money at a business that offers free period products over one that did not.
Period poverty is an issue amplified by current economic conditions and is having a significant impact on menstruators across the UK. The research from Citron Hygiene reaffirmed that menstruators are looking for a higher standard in away-from-home washrooms to feel comfortable and to manage their periods with dignity.
In anticipation of the needs of female and menstruating visitors, Bolton Wanderers Football Club installed Aunt Flow dispensers in every female and accessible toilet in the stadium concourses. The goal of this initiative is to reassure female fans that period products are freely available on-site should they require them, removing any potential barriers preventing women from attending fixtures.
A critical aspect of accessibility of period products is making them available in the washrooms where they will be needed, rather than single-point access with a gatekeeper. Often organisations will offer free period products at a concession stand or office. Any menstruator who has started their period unexpectedly, or would like to manage their period privately, will understand the issues that can arise with this system. At a minimum, creating period dignity in your stadium means offering period products in the washroom, with touch-free sanitary waste disposal bins in the cubicle.
BWFC chose Aunt Flow period products because they are plastic-free, made from 100% organic cotton (no synthetics, chemicals, or dyes) and use minimal packaging, reinforcing their commitment to their visitors and the environment.
Phil Mason, Chief Executive Officer of Bolton Wanderers in the Community, said: ”As the club's official charity, it is also our mission to create a Bolton free from disadvantage, and we are all too aware that period poverty – the struggle to afford period products – is an issue for many in our community and we want to play our part in tackling that inequality.”
