Everton FC demonstrated their commitment to providing equality for all by complying with the regulations for disabled access and egress, set out in the Accessible Stadia Guide. After undergoing major redevelopment at Goodison Park stadium a further three million pounds was invested, to improve equality of evacuation and prevent discrimination. The 39,000-seater premier league football club chose Evac+Chair to assist them in their commitment to becoming ASG-compliant.

An Evac+Chair evacuation chair A criticism of several football clubs has been that wheelchair users suffered poor sightlines by being positioned at pitch level. Everton FC have installed a new elevated platform providing improved visibility and creating an additional 54 positions for wheelchair users. Further improvements to the stadium include two, new, fully accessible lifts, new stairs and designated entrances and exits, improving access and emergency evacuation. The club had 12 Evac+Chairs installed and invested in an additional four evacuation chairs to become fully compliant.

Everton FC chose Evac+Chair as they are the recognised world leader in stairway evacuation, dedicated to providing the mobility impaired with a safe and quick means of evacuation. Everton FC made the significant investment to ensure equality for all visitors even though the club is set to demolish and rebuild the stadium. Richard Cairns, Facilities Manager at Everton FC, says: “We chose to invest in our ground regardless of the rebuild because, as a club, we are committed to all our supporters and hold the need for equality, particularly in sports, in high regard.”

Carins continued: “Evacuation procedures obviously underpin our fire safety strategy, but we also need to provide for any circumstance where someone may need assistance and the lifts are out of action. Correct evacuation training is vital for all football clubs, you can imagine, we have a lot of people working here on match days, so we needed to develop a policy that enables us to train as many of our team as possible. Evac+Chair helped implement a training programme for our health and safety officers and we are confident that all of our fans and visitors to Goodison Park can be evacuated safety and correctly in an emergency.”
