New Report From Baroness Casey On The Progress Made Since The Euro 2020 Final

Inside Wembley Stadium, looking at the football pitch The FA has today published a new stocktake report from Baroness Casey which provides a comprehensive update on the progress made by Wembley Stadium and its partners following the events surrounding the UEFA EURO 2020 Final.

In December 2021, Baroness Casey published an independent review into the significant levels of public disorder before and during the UEFA EURO 2020 Final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 11th July 2021.

The review was commissioned by the FA to fully understand the events of that day, and to identify key recommendations that Wembley Stadium and all event management partners could implement to ensure that we never see similar events again. Within the review, Baroness Casey made six main recommendations, which included five for national consideration by Government and other bodies, and one – with three elements – specifically for The FA, Wembley Stadium and its partners.

FA chief executive, Mark Bullingham, said: “We thank Baroness Casey for her time and diligence in undertaking this new stocktake report. The report highlights the continued improvement and delivery of successful events at Wembley Stadium since the unacceptable events around the UEFA EURO 2020 Final, as well as the significant financial investment we have made to enhance our security measures throughout the venue.

“I would also like to thank all of our delivery partners for their collaborative support throughout this process. We will continue to work hard together on implementing the recommendations from Baroness Casey to ensure that visiting Wembley Stadium is a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.”

The key priorities for the FA and Wembley Stadium following this new stocktake report from Baroness Casey include:

  1. To continue to work with the Government and other key partners to improve and formalise the delivery of major events of national significance at Wembley Stadium, including the introduction of legislation to tackle tailgating
  2. The FA and Wembley Stadium will create a formalised plan and strategy to ensure the retention of key information, insight and institutional memory related to the UEFA EURO 2020 Final. This includes documentation of the subsequent actions, plans and improvements made to Wembley Stadium to ensure the successful delivery of future events
  3. To deliver a successful 2024 UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley Stadium, ensuring best practice governance is implemented across all event delivery partners. To support this, Baroness Casey will chair a ‘Champions League Final Assurance Group’, working with Wembley Stadium and all relevant partners to benefit the delivery of the event.
