Wembley Stadium To Undergo £4.3million Revamp For Euro 2028

Fans breaking in to Wembley Stadium during Euro 2020 Wembley Stadium is set for a major security overhaul to be ready for the Euro 2028 final.

The UK and Ireland are set to host the 2028 competition after Turkey withdrew from the bidding process.

It comes after the venue vowed to avoid a repeat of scenes from the Euro 2020 final when 2,000 fans without tickets broke in, forcing their way through turnstiles and barriers, overwhelming security staff.

An FA review on the disorder highlighted a series of crowd 'near misses' which could have led to fatalities, and made five recommendations for national consideration.

To avoid any possibility of a repeat of this, numerous security improves will be made, with reports including steel rings with 12ft anti‑climb fences, 50 high‑resolution cameras for security, monitoring and identification, plus staff will be better trained, in preparation for any possible scenario.

A new gated portal with enclosed roller shutters reportedly will fortify the entrance to Club Wembley, and a new external entrance lobby with reinforced interlocking doors will stop any unauthorised entry from people approaching from the Olympic Steps. VIP, staff and media entrances will receive larger, stronger gates also.
