Minister For Energy Efficiency And Green Finance To Open Facilities Show 2023

Facilities Show 2023 - 16th-18th May Given current economic uncertainty and energy security challenges, a fast-changing regulatory environment and the pressure on us all to meet the UK’s ambitious net zero targets, it has never been more important to have visible and vocal leadership from Government.

Opening the annual Facilities Show at 10am on Tuesday 16th May 2023, Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance, Lord Callanan, will be interviewed by Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) on how the government are approaching Net Zero, specifically regarding commercial property.

Relevant to property, real estate and FM leaders, the discussion will cover:

  • How the Government plans to help organisations transition to more sustainable energy sources
  • Government plans for the expansion of electric vehicles and the infrastructure required
  • The future of wholesale energy cost mechanisms
  • Any guidance on planning regulations that will encourage an eco-friendly approach
  • The government’s view on carbon taxes
  • Upskilling the workforce to have the skills required for installing and maintaining the tech required to achieve carbon net zero

In February 2023, Lord Callanan was appointed co-chair of the new Energy Efficiency Taskforce, which works to identify and reduce the barriers to reducing energy use in buildings and heavy industry, in turn reducing bills and greenhouse gas emissions.

As Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance), Lord Callanan is responsible for green finance, energy efficiency, industrial decarbonisation, clean heat, heat networks, hydrogen and more.
