Just 5 Weeks To Go Until The BASIS Sustainable Sport Conference 2023
Have You Registered To Attend Yet?
Keynote speaker announcement! BASIS are delighted to reveal Rob Hopkins as the keynote speaker.
Rob has spent many years working with communities across the UK and further afield to inspire bottom up action and radical change. More recently, his work has focused on how to build the capacity to be imaginative in a time when that particular skill is on the decline. He will invite delegates to think beyond “what is”, to become much better and much braver at asking “what if?”, and to embrace the opportunity of designing and putting in place “what next?”. Expect inspiring stories from around the world of imagination and action and be prepared for an invigorating workout for your own imagination.
Sessions at the conference include:
- Integrating and Valuing Sport in the Sustainability Targets of a City
Where does sport sit in the sustainability aspirations of a city? Using our conference venue, Ashton Gate, as a case study in Bristol. How did the development include targets from the city? How does the city respond to major sporting development?
- The Sport Environment and Climate Coalition Group
Understand more about the SECC group – what it is and what it does, along with some specific announcements from SECC members.
- Talking Rubbish II – Operational solutions to Catering, Waste and Packaging Issues
Join Amanda Curtis, Sam Walker (Biopak), Peter Watts (Rockvolt) and Kate Chapman (London Marathon Events) to hear about their ambitions and solutions to reduce waste and carbon footprint while delivering high quality services and customer experiences.
- Government Sport Strategy
We are expecting a message from the Sport Minister, the Rt. Hon, Stuart Andrew MP giving a short introduction to the soon-to-be-published Government Sport Strategy, which is expected to recognise environmental sustainability as a central issue for sport.
- Reflections session:
Join some of most influential and respected journalists reporting on the intersection between sport and sustainability, including David Garrido (Presenter, Sky Sports), David Lockwood (Head of Editorial – Sustainability, BBC Sport) Jonathan Overend (Emergency on Planet Sport) as they draw on their varied experience from television broadcast, radio/podcast and online-print coverage as they discuss their top positive stories from the past year and highlight where the media needs to challenge more.
Two exciting activations at the Conference are:
- UK Sport are planning a “surgery session” for stakeholders to better understand, check, challenge and question their new Environmental Sustainability Strategy (to be published before the Conference).
- The Carbon Literacy Project will launch their new sport-specific carbon literacy training at the Conference. BASIS is planning a training session at the event – details to be released soon.
The BASIS Conference is the place to hear the latest information and to meet like-minded people in sport who are looking to manage their venues and teams in a more sustainable way. Look out for the separate email updates with more details coming in the next few weeks.
