Merging Old And New: A New Home For The Toffees In The Heart Of Historic Liverpool

An updated application for Everton’s new home at Bramley-Moore Dock is set to be submitted this month. Design and engineering firm Buro Happold are tasked with delivering the engineering and specialist technical design for what will undoubtedly become an iconic stadium, for one of England’s most historic football clubs.

Buro Happold is working closely with Everton Football Club, Laing O’Rourke, Pattern Architects and Planit-IE to provide a state-of-the-art 52,000 seat new home, incorporating world-class facilities for players and fans alike.

Everton consulted on and set out eleven key principles for the design to ensure the project provides the right deal for the club, fans and the wider community of the city of Liverpool. The project encompasses the construction of an iconic landmark and new home for the club, harnessing the surrounding environment and respecting the heritage of the area. Buro Happold has been working with the club since the development of these principles and will continue to play a key role in ensuring they are achieved.

The stadium itself is designed to relocate the character, tradition and atmosphere of Goodison Park and relocate it at Bramley-Moore Dock. This will be delivered in line with sustainable design principles, making sure it is operationally efficient while preserving the integrity and heritage assets of the surrounding area for future generations.

In terms of the day to day running of the stadium, Buro Happold will use its expertise to help incorporate technology which enhances the matchday experience, brings fans closer to the action and ensures a safe and efficient flow of people in and around the stadium on matchday.

An amended planning application will be submitted to Liverpool City Council later this month, with the hope of a start on site in 2021.
