Rotherham United Launches Every Miller Matters To Help Combat This Winter’s Cost Of Living Crisis

Free warm spaces Rotherham United have announced they will be collaborating with the Rotherham United Community Sports Trust to play their part in alleviating the pressures placed on people in the local area by the cost of living crisis, by offering their full support to the recently launched ‘Every Miller Matters’ project.

The financial impact that the last couple of years has had on the United Kingdom has affected us all and we are aware that for some, it has hit harder than others.

As a club, Rotherham United pride themselves of ‘being there’ for the people of Rotherham, and so are reminding everyone that there is absolutely no shame whatsoever in reaching out for help – help that The Millers want to offer people.

The ‘Every Millers Matters’ project has been launched in an attempt to relieve some of the pressures that are associated with the rising cost of living, whether that be heating your home or charging your mobile phone.

The Community Sports Trust have worked incredibly hard to ensure that they can facilitate a space at AESSEAL New York Stadium which offers those needing to, the chance to come down to somewhere warm, in turn, meaning that they can turn the heating off at home – even if it just for an hour or so.

The Trust have devised a timetable for which the room will be open to supporters to come down and enjoy a warm and friendly atmosphere, with tea and coffee, table tennis, dance sessions taking place on-site.

Both individuals and families are invited to join us for these free sessions.

Beyond offering a warm space for local people this winter, the project will look to support those who need it by distributing items kindly donated by supporters prior to their home game with Norwich City on 5th November.

The club will once again be facilitating a donation station at AESSEAL New York Stadium prior to our game against Bristol City on Saturday 10th December 2022.

Community Programme Manager Jonny Allan, who has been a driving force behind the founding of the project said: “I can’t stress enough how strongly we feel like our role at Rotherham United extends well beyond just being a place where people come to watch football matches.

“There is an incredible community feel which I think resonates with not just supporters, but also those in the town. It runs throughout the club from the Chairman who sets that culture to every single person who has ever even heard the name Rotherham United.

“I don’t think there is anyone who hasn’t felt the financial pinch of the last few years, whether that be during the coronavirus pandemic or more recently as costs have started to rise across the board.

“As a club, we felt like we had to take action to try and help out and the ‘Every Miller Matters’ campaign encapsulates all the ways in which we thought we could alleviate some of that pressure.

“We have already hosted a couple of sessions and it has been really eye-opening to speak to people and understand just how hard certain individuals have been hit.

“We believe there are more people out there who could benefit from what we are offering at AESSEAL New York Stadium and I would implore those individuals or families to come down and see us. There is absolutely no judgement. This is a safe space for a coffee, a chat and a bit of charge for your phone.

“The message is in the project title, ‘Every Miller Matters’ and we want to make sure that people know that.”
