SGSA Chief Executive Awarded OBE

Martyn Henderson with his OBE SGSA Chief Executive, Martyn Henderson, was awarded with his OBE in an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle last month.

Martyn was awarded the OBE in the Queen’s New Years Honours List for services to sports safety during COVID-19. Over the course of the pandemic, he was integral to the safe return of spectators to sports grounds, leading the Government’s Events Research Programme for the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

Martyn received his OBE from the Princess Royal. Speaking of the investiture, Martyn said: “I was thrilled to attend an investiture ceremony earlier this month to collect an OBE.

“While I was incredibly humbled to be recognised for this huge honour, I know that it was really earned by the exceptional work of many colleagues at the SGSA and in Government, as well as countless dedicated people across the sports sector. They all have my undying gratitude.

“Live sport brings enormous joy and a powerful sense of community to so many people and it is a great privilege to be honoured for playing a part in its return to our sports grounds and stadia.”
