Spurs Searching For Stadium Naming Rights Partner And Potentially Upgrading Pitch

Spurs stadium football pitch construction Tottenham Hotspur are looking to secure more money for their recently built Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after apparently holding talks with tech giants Google over a naming-rights deal. The naming deal of the 62,850 capacity ground could net the club around £25 million-a-year. Supposedly there have been talks with several American brands in recent weeks including Uber, FedEx and Amazon.

There are also suggestions that the club is looking to upgrade their retractable pitch which cost approximately £25million and opened in 2019. The pitch currently splits into three 3000-tonne sections before sliding back to reveal the artificial field which has proved extremely lucrative for the club, being used in lucrative NFL games like the clash between the New York Giants and Green Bay Packers only last Sunday, October 9th.

The mechanical retraction of the football playing surface lasts just 25 minutes, but it takes up to 48 hours to get the pitch match-ready for American football, so it’s been claimed Spurs are now exploring multi-million-pound technological improvements to expedite the process.

Sources close to SCX, the Sheffield-based mechanical engineering specialists who installed the pitch three years ago, commented that the firm is “surprised” that Spurs are seeking upgrades to what remains a cutting-edge facility. At current costs the playing surface alone at an elite-level costs around £300,000, while a full installation including drainage system can easily run into the millions. When the pitch is required to retract to an entirely different surface those figures increase dramatically. Tottenham have been greatly encouraged by the interest and revenues that their cutting-edge stadium has attracted. Their owners and Chairman, Daniel Levy are keen to develop it even further to ensure the stadium remains at the pinnacle of UK sports stadia!
