Cambridge United’s Abbey Stadium Is Set To Continue The Trial For The Safe Return Of Supporters Into Stadia

Abbey Stadium, Cambridge United FCThe Abbey Stadium will stage two test events trialling the return of supporters in line with the government's pilot scheme.

The first game will be The EFL Trophy fixture against Fulham U21s on September 8th is scheduled to permit a 1,000 spectator capacity, with the opening Sky Bet League Two game of the 2020/21 season against Carlisle United four days later to increase to a 2,500 capacity for fan attendance.

Cambridge United have been chosen to host the two test events, having previously been part of a joint project by the EFL and the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) that looked at the safe application of social distancing at football grounds, with appropriate safety measures applied around the stadium in both terraced and seating areas.

The two fixtures have specifically been scheduled at the same venue within a short period of time, to allow for testing of any improvement strategies to be implemented quickly under the same conditions.
