Sports Without Spectators Guidance

Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) logoThe Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) has published new guidance documents to support the restart of elite sport.

We have been working closely with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) along with Public Health England and sport governing bodies to ensure that any return to live sport is achieved safely.

In addition to the Government’s advice published at the end of May (available via the gov.uk website), the SGSA has published new guidance for Safety Advisory Groups in relation to the key safety considerations for grounds.

The guidance covers a number of issues including:

  • General Safety Certificates, including a standard condition for insertion into certificates
  • Safety and security considerations
  • Medical and first aid provision
  • Health and safety at work
  • Media provision

It's being issued to help Safety Advisory Groups consider what actions may need to be taken following Government’s publication of Stage Three guidance on return to domestic competitions for elite sports.

We have published two versions of the document:

1. Football without spectators – specific advice relating to the restart of the football season

2. Sport without spectators – wider advice applicable to sports grounds.
