Wolves' Molineux Stadium Chosen For England Games Against Italy And Hungary

An aerial photo of Wolves' Molineux Stadium England's next two home UEFA Nations League matches, against Italy and Hungary, will be played at Wolves' Molineux Stadium in June. Unfortunately the game against Italy will be played behind closed doors following the unrest at the Euro 2020 final, when the two countries met at Wembley. England play Italy on Saturday, 11th June before Hungary visit on Tuesday, 14th June, with both games kicking off at 7.45pm. It will be the first time Wolverhampton has hosted a match involving the England senior men's team since December 1956.

The Molineux stadium has safe-standing rail seating installed in the South Bank and parts of the North Bank stand, but the ground remains an all-seater stadium currently and is not part of the pilot scheme taking place currently at some other Premier League and Championship grounds currently, including Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham, Chelsea and Cardiff City.

Wolves had initially applied to be part of the pilot scheme but had withdrawn their application due to the requirements for away fans to also have the ability to test the rail seating. At Molineux, away supporters are housed in the Steve Bull lower at Molineux and that part of the ground would have had to have rail seats added just for the trial period. It will be interesting to see if any application will be made to alter the stadium classification for the International fixtures.

As well as Italy and Hungary, Southgate's side have also been drawn alongside Germany in Nations League Group A3. The Three Lions start with a trip to Hungarian capital Budapest on Saturday, 4th June at 5pm before taking on Germany in Munich on Tuesday, 7th June at 7.45pm. The Nations League group stages will be completed in September before the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar begin in November.
