GMI Construction On Track To Hand Over Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park Community Stadium
GMI Construction Group PLC has lifted the final piece of roof cladding into place at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park’s Community Stadium and is now progressing with the final phase involving the fitting out of the internal space.
The three-storey covered sports stadium, which will have a total capacity of 3,900, including initial seating for 758 spectators, is being developed and managed by Scarborough Group International (SGI), and will be home to Sheffield Eagles Rugby League Club.
Principal contractor, GMI Construction Group PLC has made notable progress on site to complete the phase involving the installation of the roof, which is 58m long and 30m wide.
The stadium includes 23,000 sq ft of commercial space and the company is now carrying out the internal fit out of ancillary facilities and common areas before the project is handed over to real estate developer and investor SGI during the early part of this year.
Work started on the stadium just over 11 months ago following a socially distanced ground-breaking ceremony. Around 240 tonnes of steelwork, 2,350 tonnes of concrete and 100,000 blocks have been used in the project, with more than 10,000 tonnes of material moved as part of the earthworks.

SGI acquired the Community Stadium site from Sheffield City Council in 2018 prior to concluding a wider agreement to deliver the next phase of Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, which includes a masterplan for approximately 850,000 sq ft of commercial space across an 80-acre zone.
This will completely transform the eastern quarter of the city into vibrant, world-class community for the health, wellbeing, sport and activity sectors, creating up to 5,600 high-value jobs.
