Kop Redevelopment Survey Could Influence Safe Standing At The Racecourse Ground

A Wrexham AFC have released the results of a survey of members they held in November, regarding the proposed Kop Redevelopment. A total of 5,015 responses to the survey were received.

Regarding the Kop stand redevelopment, the current proposal would see the total capacity of the stadium to increased to 16,000 through a new 5,500-capacity stand being built. The intention is to keep 500 of those spaces for corporate seating.

Wrexham AFC asked about the type of accommodation fans would favour for the remaining 5,000 capacity. 75% of those who replied said that, if the choice was available, they would prefer “Safe Standing, utilising rail seating”, with 10% saying they would choose an “all standing traditional terrace”. In total 85% of respondents felt there should be the option of standing at Wrexham AFC fixtures.

A question in the survey about the freehold ownership asked if the fans would be “… supportive of Wrexham AFC Limited purchasing the freehold of the Racecourse Ground from Glyndwr University”. A resounding 94% of supporters answered Yes, with 4% saying Don’t know, leaving just 2% saying No.

In a closing summary, Wrexham AFC said: “The club now believe there is a clear mandate in place from the fan base/community to progress the Kop redevelopment and as part of this, transfer the freehold of the Racecourse Ground to the club.

“The club have previously confirmed the financial contribution we will make to deliver the Kop redevelopment and have asked the Gateway Partnership to confirm the public sector funding position, to make this a reality rather than just an aspiration.

“The club will keep fans up to date with progress.”
