Gloucester Rugby And Smiths Work To Sustain The Game With Extended Partnership

A Smiths waste recycling lorry Gloucester Rugby is delighted to announce that local company Smiths (Gloucester) Ltd, industry leaders in Waste Management and Construction, have agreed a new multi-year partnership with the Cherry and Whites.

Smiths will be working with the Club to use their recycling and waste management expertise in support of Gloucester Rugby’s programme of environmental sustainability actions around the stadium. Under the banner Sustain The Game, Gloucester Rugby fans will start to see Gloucester Rugby’s sustainable measures which have been introduced around the stadium.

Smiths will be supporting a network of recycling stations around the Kingsholm site to help with the separation and collection of recyclable materials. All recyclable materials collected will be recycled through the correct channels back into reusable materials, whilst non-recyclable material will be processed by Smith’s network of ‘Waste to Energy’ plants to ensure zero waste to landfill from the Club.

Director of Sustainability, Richard Weller, is pleased to have Smiths sign on: “We are delighted to have renewed our partnership with Smiths who are a great local company and a real credit to the community. They are an organisation who are making huge inroads into the Waste Management and Recycling sector.

“By placing a number of recycling stations around key locations, we look forward to working closely with them to further assist us in our sustainability programme here at Kingsholm.”

Commercial Manager for Skip Hire at Smiths, Tom Broomfield, is delighted to extend the partnership, saying: “We are pleased to have extended our partnership with Gloucester Rugby and look forward to working closely with the club over the next three years as we look to build on this strong relationship.”
