Peterborough United Submits New Stadium Plans

Peterborough United proposed stadium site Peterborough United has submitted planning documents for their new stadium on the Embankment to the city council.

The plans include details of a 19,000-capacity stadium, situated in the Embankment area of the city, with the possibility of expanding the facility to 24,000 in the future. A multi-use venue has been envisaged by the club’s owners, with the venue set up to host a variety of events.

The site of choice is not without some controversy, as some locals and politicians are worried about the loss of green space and have set up the Save Peterborough Embankment Facebook page to oppose the development, citing concerns about the loss of green space.

Peterborough United dispute this, and insist that the work will enhance the public landscape, providing a range of events for the whole Peterborough community, not just the football fans, enticing new business, tourism, and investment to the area.

The stadium would be up to 23.5 metres high, covering 20,500 meters2. The location was chosen to “ensure that as much public open space is retained, and that the venue’s structure is set against the backdrop of made ground that supports the elevated section of the parkway further limiting space take.”
